Caesarea: Looking at where the boat docks and shops would have been
located during Paul's time. There is no mention that Jesus ever visited this
community.
 
Caesarea: Looking west toward the Mediterranean Sea over the site
where Herod's palace would have stood during Paul's time. These is the
area also that Paul would have been held prisoner for two years.
Caesarea was located a 10 day journey from Rome and the city itself was
modeled after Rome.
Caesarea: An amphitheatre that is still used today, the bottom part was from
the original theatre during Paul's time. The current theatre has excellent
acoustics. The theory is that Paul probably defended himself in this theatre.

Caesarea: We are in the area where the shops were located. Walking
through this area gives you a good feel of the size of the shops.
Caesarea: Tony our guide explaining the design of the entrance. It was
designed with corners so that a rider on a horse or soldier would have to
slow down when they entered and it was easier to protect the entrance.
Notice the rectangular slot in the back of the picture, it was designed for
shooting out through.

palace here, and also Pontius Pilate during his time lived here and later
Festus.
